Borobudur

Borobudur is a majestic ancient Buddhist temple located in the Java region of Indonesia. Believed to be built in the 9th century, it is one of the ancient monuments and world’s biggest Buddhist temple. Borobudur was built when Hindus were in majority in Java. But slowly the influence of Hindus and Buddhist began to decrease and the region was dominated by Islam. It was only during the British rule in Java, when a British governor took efforts to give another life to this incredible structure. Post that UNESCO and Indonesian government took efforts for its complete restoration.
